| Below are series
of images taken of a Royal Australian Navy AS350BA Squirrel
Ass-013. This is one of the 6 aircraft purchased specifically for
the RAN. These 6 have a different Navigations/radio ft than the
original RAAF aircraft. If you're modeling a RAAF/Ex Army aircraft
there are some minor differences internally (instrument
panel/console) and externally (certain Antennas) so check you
references/pictures. Also depending on the timeframe the seats and
some antennas are different The ADF bought 3 batches of Squirrels over time, The first batch A22-001 to A22-012 were bought for rotary wing training, the second batch A22-013-018 were bought for the RAN as interim helicopter for the new Adelaide class FFG's. The final batch A22-019 to A22-024 were bought for by the RAAF search and rescue. With the decision to allocate all RAAF helicopters to the Army the RAAF Squirrels became Army aircraft. With the closure of the ADF Helicopter school the navy gave up it's Bell 206's and gained gained 8 of the Army AS350BA's. Seven of these are still operated along side the 6 RAN variants by 723 Sqn at HMAS Albatross. All the Ex Army/RAAF aircraft are currently in he the process of being painted grey. The orange floats shown here are the old type and have been replaced by newer ones. The newer ones are slightly longer and are grey in colour |
